I have been thinking of a way of letting this out, I’ll do it anyway. I’m way tired of the fear of death, many of us keep living like there is something this world owes us, it doesn’t. Day by day, Christians are being persecuted and killed for the one TRUE God they believe in. When we all hear of these deaths, we are sad, we pray, we cry. Somewhere in our hearts we really don’t wish these wicked faith testers come to our neighborhood, we don’t want to die, at least not yet, not now! There is still a lot to be accomplished, so we need a lot of time on earth to get these things done.
If some of us had guns pointed at us right now, and the gun holder says “I am here to kill believers in Jesus Christ, I mean true Christians, are you one of them?” What exactly would your response be? As simple as this question is, it encompasses your entire life on earth, your beliefs, and what the state of your true relationship with God is. The question asks if you are really willing to accept your true relationship with God and leave this rotten world to be with Him! Will you say “Oh yes I am a believer and a lover of Jesus Christ, I don’t care if I’m shot for Christ or not, I am not afraid of anything, I am His.” Or will you say “I don’t know who Jesus is, I am not a Christian” because you feel getting to see your family or loved ones one more time (which is not bad in itself) is more important than accepting your true position for God in the face of death?
This may come across as harsh, but we need to get our acts together, we need to stop the tears and begin to keep building our faith, courage, defiance, for God. If you get to see anyone martyred for Christ, be glad, be happy. We still don’t get it do we? Have you read how the people killed for Christ’s sake in the Bible died? Did you see any one of them deny God, or beg not to be killed? No! It didn’t matter, it didn’t matter at all.
This world pales in comparison to what God has in store for us in heaven, sincerely. Imagine living in the poorest of places, darkness, the hunger, poverty, failure, bad odour, constant reminder of your imperfections versus living in true light, a far better life, where you are the friend, servant to the Son of God. In a place that the streets are paved with gold, where there is no weakness, no imperfection, just glory!
This world is pale in comparison of being with my Jesus! We are only here because He has given us life, We must reflect His glory and we must use the life to accomplish the plans he has set for us. Should we be sorry if this life gets taken away from us? No! Should we deny my God and later get killed? No. The Bible records that the disciples counted it all joy to partake of Jesus sufferings when they were flogged. It was a total privilege to be killed for the sake of Christ, they didn’t make farewell speeches, they were glad!
Peter died on a cross like Jesus did, but he asked that his own cross be turned upside down, so he doesn’t die the exact way Jesus did. He didn’t ask for one last taste of his favorite apple pie, pizza or ice cream. He asked that his way of death be done in a particular way. Would you tell your shooter to not shoot you in the belly but in the head? Or you’ll tell him to shoot your foot, so that somehow you’ll survive?
I really stopped caring a long time ago, about what this world has to offer me, the vanity and the seeming pleasures, I am totally uninterested, sincerely. Jesus is my portion, He is my inheritance. Things can change, situations can change, assets and bonds may depreciate, but the value of my God will never drop.
You are here to receive Jesus into your life, die to self, and be surely rooted in God. Apart from sharing the Good News of the cross, of Jesus’ death and resurrection for us with this blind and dying world, and to know God more. When we hear that any believer dies for Christ, our resolve to do so too should be strengthened, honestly. Same with suffering, many of us never want to suffer at all since Jesus already suffered on the cross. “He died that we may chill right?” That we may just play around, and enjoy the best of houses, cars, and food? Is that what your Jesus died for? No! Jesus died for so much more!
Why do you have a personal cross if you are not going to suffer or be crucified for His sake? Do you know what it means to partake in His sufferings? It’s like sharing a meal with someone, you’ll eat of the same plate as He did! Are you living a good life, the kind of life that the ‘world’ envies? Do you want to enjoy like that till you die? Or do you desire to leave your comfort zone to do greater things for God? Are you ready for God to be your only security, and hope? Not the temporary things this world has to offer? Yes you should!
What the most important death is, is the death to self. Death to self is the first death we all must partake of. Where we surrender our will and plans to God, knowing fully that he is the author and finisher of our lives. Whether it is comfortable for us or not, we must stay submitted to God. There is no joy in a physical death if we don’t die daily, we must take up our cross and follow Christ.
As long as we know death will surely come, we must be ready to fight to live! Jesus didn’t die before his time. There were times he should had been killed, but he personally found a way of escape. Don’t die before your time! There is so much more God has set for you to accomplish, there are times in His presence that will still count and will reveal more of Him to you. We live for these moments. There is a reward in heaven for our hard work and labor of love on earth. Jesus said we should pray ‘Deliver us from evil’. We shouldn’t relax when the devil tries to come against us, we must fight this good fight of faith.
We do not mourn like those without hope, we actually have hope. The hope that died and rose again! Jesus!! I’m tired of how we paint death like the most unexpected event in the life of a man. Enough of that from now on, begin to live ready, live ready! God has promised us long life, the Bible says we would fulfil our days. That isn’t a reason to lay back and be careless, but to push on, ensuring that we totally accomplish all God has set in place for us.
What about my family and loved ones you ask? The same God I live and will die for, is available for them too, He is ALL they will ever need. Knowing that they all have that chance, gladdens my heart, because we will meet again.
I can boldly say “Hey death, I’m ready when God says it is! Reunite me with the one I love, you are powerless and were made by Him. Love always wins!”
Will you? Think about it…
But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
– 1 Peter 4:13-16
Where, O death, is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
– 1 Corinthians 15:55-58
