It Can Be Terrible When God Does Not Make Sense

Have you ever been in a situation where it seems God is not making any sense at all? Perhaps you had everything planned out and all that was left was for the events to take their course but they didn’t and instead they went totally off course. Well this was my story some time ago.
I was going through a challenging situation. I knew no one could really help me although I spoke to a few friends about it. I prayed about it times without number and like Jesus at Gethsemane, I asked God to let the cup pass over me. Prior to that point, I had everything planned out. I never foresaw any challenge arising. It was perfect. As if my situation wasn’t bad enough, it got even more annoying! A friend of mine going through something similar approached me and poured her heart to me. Because I was in her shoes, I was able to encourage her and pray for her. After about a week I called her to get update and she was so joyful, she told me everything had been resolved. I was happy for her but wondered if my prayer requests were experiencing some sort of traffic in Heaven lol.

It didn’t make any sense at all. Little did I know God had greater plans. He closed a door I thought was the best only to open a much better one. Your story may be different or even worse, you may still be in the middle of that unpleasant situation but you need to understand that God never promised us a hitch free ride but His abiding presence all the way (Matt 28:20b). As precious as gold is, it must pass through the fire to shine beautifully.

Have you ever wondered where God is when you are passing through a difficult time? I wonder what the clay pot has to say about that too. If it could speak, it would have screamed at the potter ‘Can’t you see me going through so much pain here? This heat is killing me, I can’t take it anymore, get me out of here’. But if it were to be brought out in that state, it won’t survive much longer outside either. The fire is to make it stronger and the potter is right there to ensure the pot comes out just fine.

God loves you dearly and has the best planned out for you. He says ‘I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out- plans to take care of you not to abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for’ Jer 29:11 (MSG). Can you imagine the Almighty thinking about you? It’s mind blowing. I mean it’s cute when someone you like says you’ve been on their mind, now imagine GOD say you are always on His mind. It’s so beautiful.

Never think God is wicked, takes pleasure in His children suffering or doesn’t understand. Heb 4:15 says ‘This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the testings we do, yet He did not sin’ (NLT). No one ever said trying times were easy or palatable, but these ‘unpleasant experiences’ turned out to be encouragements for others or even we ourselves in later times. It is however a possibility that some unpleasant situations may be as a result of certain things we did wrong. ‘For the Lord disciplines the one He loves and He punished each one He accepts as child’ (Heb 12:5-6). Prayerfully seek God’s face for clarity and repent if that’s the case.

In conclusion, sometimes God may not seem to make sense but remember that His foolishness is wiser than human wisdom and His weakness is stronger than human strength (1 Cor 1:25). So instead of sinking in self-pity, encourage yourself in the Lord like David did when all he had was taken from him (1 Sam 39:6). Here is what you should do: begin to thank God for His amazing plans for you and ask for grace to trust Him all the way.

Know that even when it seems that God isn’t making sense, he has gone ahead of you to make more sense than you can ever imagine. You just need to get there, to see it!

  1. It is very true that God doesn’t make sense a lot of time, i’m even almost convinced that He doesn’t make sense all of the times cos we simply can’t see what He sees and what He’s up to or why He’s doing what He’s doing, and we shouldn’t be surprised, the past and future lay bare before Him.

A good consolation for me is a quote by John Piper, that says “God is always doing 10,000 things for you, but you might just see 3”. Isn’t that enough a consolation?

God can be trusted, because He is forever faith, abounding in mercy and perfect in love.

Thanks for this post The Victory path.

  2. It almost everyone that has the tought but one thing is for sure we have an assurance not to worry about things that made us feel God’s not making sense. Matt 6:28-32.

    1. It’s amazing how the scriptures strengthen us in our weakest state. His Word really gives us assurance. God bless

    1. You know, I read a post that said the refiner himself is exposed to the heat and doesn’t bring the metal out till he sees his reflection on it. God totally knows we are hurting but He has the best planned for us

  3. Nice writeup and I must say it’s what I needed @ this time. That’s why d bible says ‘Let God be true and every man a lair’ God can do all things but one- He cannot lie. He is too faithful to fail. Thanks for this ‘pat on my back’ letter. God bless.

  4. What you shared is very True Emmanuela God does Love us dearly and has the best planned out for us and we remember that He also tells us He does not willingly afflict us as we see confirmed below, yes His plans for us are good not evil and He keeps us from the consuming fire, He does not put us in it.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Our Abba Father molds and shapes us as we choose to walk in the Fruit of The Spirit by His empowering and than we are sealed by The Holy Spirit’s Fire which gives us durability not pain. If we choose to walk in the Carnal flesh which we are to put to death and also aim to be perfected in Love (Romans 8 :12-15-Colossians 3:4-6 -Galatians 5:24 -26 – Romans 6 – 1 John 4:17-19 ) and we sin we are than separated from God and reap the evil we sow, which is His discipline, just like with the Prodigal Son but Wow what a welcome Home when we come to our senses and repent. We also live in a fallen world that Satan controls and he puts us to the test not God, (James 1:12-14) accidents happen too and others hurt us but God gives us the Strength to endure. Isaiah 43:1-3

Some claim that everything that happens to us good and bad comes from God, I would like you to think about something if you believe this too , I was molested by 5 different men from the age of 3 and raped by a Doctor who Aborted my baby when I was not yet 15, my birth Mother violently abused me before she abandoned me when I was 4. My first Husband bashed me even when I was pregnant and I had 7 Children die, 3 were Stillborn girls and the others I lost including the one that was Aborted at almost 5 months gestation .

So did God do all this to me or willingly allow it to happen to mold and shape me? the Scriptures tell us to even say Christians do evil to bring good out of it is slander, God will bring good out of all we go through in life but He does not afflict us to do it.

For understanding of God’s Truth and to know His heart of Love for us and good will, we ask for His wisdom wisdom (Proverbs 4:7- James 1:5-6 -Proverbs 2:5-7 – Proverbs 4:5-6) and the empowering of The Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13 -1Corinthians 2 :9-16) than Jesus our Lord and Saviour, who tells us He is our only Teacher (Matthew 23:8-10) leads us into all Truth. (Colossians 2 :2 -3- 1John 5:20 Thessalonians 5:22)

1John 2:26-28 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you but as the same anointing Teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath Taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

Matthew 10:26-28 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops (KJV)

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of Love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the Sons/Daughters of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not
